Here are 6 considerations for a successful outing:
• 1. Have you prepared and examined the safety of your group?
The safety of all people should be their top priority. Make sure everyone understands the demands of travel and physically fit enough for the effort required, especially if you go on a long backpacking trip in mountainous terrain or rocky. Take a good 1st kit with bandages, antiseptics, aspirin (pain relief), and gauze pads. Make sure everyone is familiar with the route and have a plan to find someone if they are lost, and signaling systems, a whistle for the world and stay in place until found.
• 2. What is appropriate clothing for the journey you are planning?
Time of year, weather, weight and convenience are things to consider here. Take as few clothes as necessary. Layering is the best way to adapt to the conditions. Takeoff or clothing as needed. Wind and water resistant exterior light layers are important, and a breathable, comfortable inner layer. Socks made of wool blend are the best. Make sure you have a few pairs and dry at the end of each day.
